gallery rosenfeld is delighted to announce that Riccardo Guarneri has been awarded the 2026 Career Achievement Award of the 67th Premio Bugatti Segantini, one of Italy’s longest-running contemporary art prizes celebrating an artist's lifetime contribution to contemporary art.
As part of the award, Villa Vertua in Nova Milanese, Italy will present Riccardo Guarneri: Transits of Light, curated by Massimo Bignardi, on view from 6 June to 5 July 2026. The exhibition brings together eighteen paintings that trace Guarneri’s ongoing exploration of light, revealing the subtle interplay of transparency, colour, and spatial perception that has defined his practice over recent decades.
A leading figure of post-war Italian Analytical Painting since the 1950s, Guarneri has developed a distinctive artistic language centred on the investigation of light, colour, and visual perception, moving beyond Informal painting toward a rigorous and refined abstraction.
Guarneri’s practice is distinguished by subtle and delicate linear structures in harmony with luminous surfaces that explore the relationship between space, light, and perception. Working with restrained palettes and transparent layers of colour, he creates paintings that reveal light as both a visual and poetic phenomenon. His research has remained remarkably consistent over decades, focusing on the essential elements of painting and the viewer’s perceptual experience.
As part of the award, selected artwork Freddo e luminoso, 2022 will enter the Civic Art Collection of Nova Milanese, joining the Premio’s permanent collection.
Organized by the Libera Accademia di Pittura “Vittorio Viviani,” with the support and patronage of public and cultural institutions including the Comune di Nova Milanese, Fondazione Rossi, Accademia di Belle Arti di Brera, Regione Lombardia, and the Provincia di Monza e Brianza.
